Completed in 2008, this project marked hotel magnate, Sol Kerzner’s return to South Africa with his brand of luxury resort hotel situated in the V&A Waterfront, arguably the most valuable real estate in South Africa.
His philosophy is simple: Blow away the customer. Wow them at every turn and make each and every experience within their properties, even better than the last.
The 140 key hotel, whilst orientated to maximise the views of Table Mountain, is faced on three sides by the marina residential complex, the main rise positioned on the ‘main land’ and the spa and villas on ‘islands’ in the marina.
In this way, although distinctly an urban location in contrast to other O & O hotels, the hotel character is of an exotic contemporary African themed island resort offering a unique visitor experience.
Although the landscape was designed by Bensely Design Studios Bangkok, OvP Associates were contracted for the design implementation, design value refinements and supervision.
The landscape is intensive, rich, lush and full of intricate detail. A range of indigenous and exotic trees and plants were selected for contrasting form, texture and colour, resulting in a year round seasonal display of interest.
Sculptures of abstracted African animals are carefully integrated as place making elements and there are numerous water features to heighten the experience.
The grounds are impeccably maintained, and are now well established and well worth a visit even if one cannot afford the rent!
